Rescue Centres
Rescue Centres take in animals when they have been abandoned by their owners. These centres do a great job by helping to nurse the animals back to health in cases of illness, abuse or neglect and by preparing these animals for new homes.
However, sadly every year in the UK alone it is estimated that 30,000 dogs are needlessly put to sleep as there aren’t enough homes for them all. The figures are similar for cats and small animals.
If you care about animals and don’t want to be a part of this unnecessary suffering, here is some advice:
Firstly always contact your local rescue centre if you are thinking of offering a home to a four legged friend. Never buy from a breeder. For as long as people are breeding animals there is an animal being put down elsewhere as there are not enough homes for them both.
A responsible owner should neuter their pet. That way you are making sure you are never adding to the problem of more unwanted animals.
Rescues can advise on the most suitable pet for your circumstances.
If you are looking for a certain breed of dog there are also breed specific rescues. You can do an internet search for them or ask your local rescue who usually has a copy of all of their details.
So if you have a loving home and you would like to help an animal that has had a hard start or difficult life, then a Rescue Centre is a great place to find an animal that you will be able to care for and nurture.
