History of Merseyside Animal Rights

about us boots

It was in the 1980’s when animal rights really hit the news. Suddenly people cared about whether the latest mascara was tested on animals, whether the fur trim on their coat was real or fake and just what did those veal calves go through?

Suddenly people wanted to be active and campaign for the voiceless animals that couldn’t speak in the factory farms, vivisection labs and fur farms.

People from the Merseyside area where active from as far back as the 80’s, but it wasn’t until about 1997 that our local group was formed. It was realised that the best way to campaign effectively was to build up a local group and spread the word!

Group meetings began once a month, leaflets were produced and street stalls helped our information get to the public. People were shocked to read that Fairy washing up liquid and Pantene etc are tested on animals and in this day and age! That factory farmed animals lead a miserable, depressing life and a cruel death and we don’t need to eat meat or dairy to survive!  People wanted to know more and they wanted to do something about it.

Over the years we have watched the group grow in support. Even if people couldn’t dedicate much time to be active, there was always something they could help with. Just turning vegan and helping to write letters/emails of complaint to companies involved in cruelty makes such a big difference.

So if you are reading this and want to help in any way you can, then get involved! You will help write history the day we achieve animal rights.
